Description

The XVII Portuguese Polar Science Conference is the main annual event that brings together the national community of polar scientists, serving as a privileged platform for the presentation and discussion of the most recent research conducted in Portugal within the field of polar sciences. With a multidisciplinary program and a diverse body of researchers, the conference features academic presentations spanning the life sciences, earth sciences, planetary sciences, atmospheric sciences, and the social and human sciences. This year’s edition welcomes two keynote speakers — Professor Francesco Pagnini (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy) and Professor Sandra Balão (ISCSP, Portugal) — who will offer an in-depth perspective on the role of the social sciences in polar regions, both in Antarctica and the Arctic. The XVII Portuguese Polar Science Conference is supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Portuguese Polar Program (PROPOLAR), and is held in partnership with the annual meetings of APECS Portugal and Polar Educators International. The event will take place on 14–15 November 2025, at the Universidade Lusófona campus in Lisbon. The full program will be available on the official conference website: https://cienciapolar.weebly.com/
